Your skin shouldn’t be neglected in winter just because it’s covered up in wooly jumpers and mittens.

Here’s our list of skincare tips to make sure you want to bare more, all year round!

Moisturise

The cold weather can dry out your skin massively. If you’re like us, and enjoy a nice hot bath in the winter time, try adding a few drops of rosehip oil to your bath, or purchase a moisturising bubble bath. Alternatively, use a good moisturiser after bathing to stop moisture escaping. Apply moisturiser 10 minutes after towel drying, as this is when your skin absorbs the most moisture. Leave it too long, and your skin will begin to dry out further.

Exfoliate

Winter is the most important time to exfoliate. As skin becomes dryer, it over compensates for the lack of oil by holding onto dead cells. Exfoliate twice a week with a chemical or physical exfoliator. Some sugar scrubs can be pricey, so if you’re on a budget here’s a great recipe to to follow for a homemade scrub.

Cinnamon and Vanilla Sugar Scrub

  • Half a cup of Sugar
  • Half a cup of oil
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon
  • 1tsp of vanilla essence

Mix all of these together and store in a glass jar. Use the scrub twice a week for beautiful, glowing skin!

Say bye bye to chapped lips!

Your lips show the first signs of dehydration. Combine not drinking enough water with the cold weather and you’re set for disaster! The first step to avoiding chapped lips is to make sure you’re hydrated from the inside out. Regularly sipping water throughout the day will help you to keep your body healthy, while applying regular coats of lip balm will stop the cold weather attacking your lips. If your lips are particularly dry, try applying a thick layer of lip balm before bed, almost like an overnight mask for your lips!

Take care of your hands

Like your lips, your hands suffer during the winter months. Applying hand cream regularly will help your hands to stay moisturised and soft. It is also important to remember your hands are very sensitive to chemicals, so if you find yourself washing up frequently, it may be time to purchase some rubber gloves!

Stay healthy

We know you have heard it a million times before, but what you put into your body shows on the outside. A healthy and balanced diet will keep your skin glowing and help you to fight off colds!
