Lockdown Beauty Hacks You Can Do At Home

In these uncertain and anxious times it’s tempting to stay in our PJs all day while we binge on Netflix. While this is a form of self-care, staying on top of your beauty routine can really help keep your spirits up. With hair salons and beauty parlours closed, we asked our Flawless makeup artists and hair stylists for their top tips to maintain your routine at home. If you’re worried about your tan fading or roots showing, here’s our Flawless guide to self-care during isolation:

Self Tanning

Even if your holiday has been cancelled, you don’t have to forego a golden glow this spring. Self-tanning is easy to do at home and will help you feel more cheerful – who else is feeling a little pale from being stuck indoors?

A good tan starts with good skincare. Start by exfoliating to remove your old tan. Moisturise hands, knees, elbows and feet and leave it to soak in for five minutes. Wear a tanning mitt to protect your palms and, when applying your tan, work your way up your body from your legs with long even strokes, one leg at a time. To do your hands, skim the tan lightly over the fingers but avoid the side of the hands and between the fingers.

Nail Care

If you’re used to having your nails done regularly, use this time to grow them out beautifully. Avoid picking at your shellac as it’s easy to remove at home when you know how.
Use a nail file to gently rub the gel polish. Soak a small triangle of cotton wool in acetone. Put the wet pad on to the nail then wrap tightly with a piece of tin foil.
Leave for 10 minutes, then unwrap and gently scrape away the colour with an orange stick. Lightly buff the nails and apply a cuticle oil.

Creative Makeup

If you are loving the opportunity for going bare-faced then all power to you, but for lots of us putting on our make-up on as usual each day will give us a mental boost as we go through the tough months ahead.

Sitting down to do your make-up can actually be calming and help reduce anxiety. This is a great opportunity to try new looks and because you’re not leaving home, it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work out. It can be a good time to dig out those colours, be more artistic and creative!
Continue to maintain some structure to your eyebrows with a good pair of tweezers.

Healthy Hair

As coronavirus cancling to the hair as well as clothes, our stylists advise washing your hair as soon as you get home if you do have to go out. There are loads of great videos online to show you how to style and blow dry your hair. As for cuts, no stylist wants you to reach for the scissors – be patient and let your hair do it’s natural thing!

Root cover up sprays are a great way to hide root growth but if you do have to do a full head colour at home, do a patch test first.
