Emily Austin, the fabulous, newly-crowned Miss Leeds.
Hi Emily! Wonderful to speak to you. First of all, congratulations on being crowned Miss Leeds 2018! What an achievement! So, we want to know, how old were you when you first got involved in the pageant world?
I was 18 when I first started doing pageants, for some that’s quite late but I just really wanted to give it a go.
And look where it’s got you! With less than a week until the final, what are your expectations?
I’m going into the competition the best version of me I can be. I will get so much experience and a great boost of confidence from the competition, but I really do feel ready to give my all in the final!
You go girl! Now, we know it must be nerve-wracking on the big stage, so how have you prepared for your big moment?
It really is, but it’s such an adrenaline rush! As soon as it’s over you want to do it again! It’s all about being confident and wanting it so badly – making sure your interview is prepared, that your walk is the best it can be, that your outfits are perfect. It’s all so important in the lead up to the big moment (hopefully the winning one!)
We can imagine! Has there been anyone in your pageant journey that has encouraged or inspired you to be the best you can be?
Yes, I’ve met lots of people that have encouraged and inspired me throughout my pageant journey. For example, I have been working with many different charities which have really helped me to appreciate what I’ve got a little bit more. Although it’s very cliché I’d also say my mum, dad, boyfriend and 100% my 9-year-old brother. They’re all amazing and so supportive!
Within pageants, I find Miss Great Britain 2017/18 very inspiring. We did a self-motivation class with her at the masterclass and I was left feeling so motivated and ready to give it my best.

Thank you! I really enjoyed the fact it was an all-girls team and I was made to feel so welcome! I absolutely loved my hair and makeup and the photographers made me feel so at ease! The rest just fell into place.
We loved having you here. What would it mean to you on the night to take the sparkling Miss Great Britain crown?
It would mean the world to me. I’m working hard and giving it my best, that’s all I can do.
That’s right! We think you’ll do amazing! Before we finish up Emily, we’d love to know what your advice would be to any other girls thinking of entering Miss Leeds in future years?
100% just go for it. Don’t even sit and think about it, just do it. You’ll get so much experience and meet so many different people and cultures through events and appearances! My confidence has grown so much from my first ever pageant and I feel like I’m ready. I wouldn’t wait because everyone is good enough, it just takes you to showcase that!
