Here at Flawless we believe all bodies are fabulous, no matter what shape or size! When you look good you feel good, so, as prom season is just around the corner, and the sparkly dresses will soon be appearing in our favourite shops, we have put together a guide to choosing the perfect prom dress for your body shape.
Pear shaped women tend to have smaller waists, and hips wider than their shoulders. Rihanna and Beyonce are prime examples of pear shaped women.
When selecting a prom dress for a pear shape, you should look for dresses that have blocks of colour and embellishment round the neck. If you want to show off your shape, bodycon and A-line dresses look fantastic on pear shaped women.
Being petite has its pros and cons. Often trying to find the right length dress is just the start of the battle. Luckily, more and more shops are focusing on their petite ranges and we are slowly seeing an increase in the selection of petite clothing available.
When shopping for a dress, try to select dresses with a higher cut front hem, as this will elongate the legs. Shift dresses are a great option for petites as they are tailored to have a loose fit, without a defined waist, which balances smaller proportions.
The much desired hourglass shape features a small waistline, bigger bust and wide hips.
Take inspiration from the 1950’s trend of figure hugging frocks when choosing a dress. An hourglass womans favourite is the wrap dress. These dresses pull you in at the waist to further accentuate your curves. You can further emphasise your slim waist by adding belts to dresses.
If you are an apple shape, you will probably have slim arms and legs with the majority of your weight stored around your middle.
Short dresses will accentuate your legs and draw attention downwards from your tummy, while low cut and scoop neck dresses will bring attention upwards. Tunic dresses are a great option for apple shaped women as the structured shape hides an undefined middle, whilst high hemlines allow you to show off your legs.
If you are tall with a small bust and broad shoulders, it is likely that you have a slender body shape. Slender shapes look fantastic in almost every dress style, but there are a couple which work particularly well.
Maxi dresses, minis, fitted dresses and loose styles will all look great on you. However, if you wish to create the illusion of a more shapely figure, a peplum style dress may be your best option. In addition to peplums, cowl necklines will create the illusion of a bigger bust, and broad shoulders can be refined with v and scoop necklines.
